Description
New Page 1 Circa 1835 New Hampshire Mirror weight driven Timepiece made by Benjamin Morrill, Boscawen NH. The clock retains a great original makers label pasted to the backboard. Morrill was born in 1794 and died in 1857 and was a contemporary of Joseph Chadwick. Remarkable is the disposition of the surface! The upper glass and mirror are both original as is the wood backing behind the mirror. The upper glass has been gone over from the back with "mustard" yellow touch up. The hinges that retain the door to the case are original as is the side latch. The bottom board on the clock is original, has wonderful hand made dove tails, and the weight has NEVER gone through the bottom board. The case has not been refinished, and as you can see from the photos has a wonderful patina.. The cast iron weight is original, and so are the very fine barbed hands, as well as the original pendulum. This clock is closely related to the Joseph Chadwick Mirror Clock (who also worked in Boscawen) in Parsons, New Hampshire Clocks & Clockmakers, Page 198. See the scan below in case you don't have the book. There are numerous high res. photos that tell the whole story. The clock comes with it's ORIGINAL winding crank. The rosette on the upper right block appears to be an old replacement. The movement has been recently overhauled by Tom Powers of Lambertville NJ and the clock runs great and keeps perfect time. We handled another related example in the past that you may view on our web site at http://www.adamsbrown.com/mirror/chadwick.htm Email any questions you may have: info@adamsbrown.com. The clock may be inspected and/or picked up in Cranbury NJ. Shipping/Insurance actual charges for 2 Priority Mail boxes shipped from 08512 as computed at www.usps.com Depending on your location the Shipping would run between $ 75 - $ 125. If it helps you out, the clock can be delivered to the NAWCC regional in York PA at no charge. Payment is due at the end of the auction and prior to pick up. good luck
