Description
This Gorgeous and Rare 19th century French Gilded Bronze Lion sculpture clock was found at a recent private estate sale . (Please view the pictures below) As can be seen in the pictures , this clock is absolutely Magnificent in every detail . The clock and fabulous sculpture are very impressive in size with a overall height of 16 1/2" with a Base width of 16" and depth of 7". The clock is also impressive in weight of approx. 58 lbs. One of the 'eye catching ' focal points of the clock is incredible life like sculpture of a large male Lion . The Lion was very artistically created from Bronze metal showing his open mouth and teeth and coat and coated with a Gilded Gold finish. The Bronze Lion is displayed on top of a Large Multi-color Green Marble case . The Green Marble has many different color grains running through it , such as White, Black and other shades of Green. The Marble was carved with a top flat surface that the Lion is on and terraced inward on the sides with a flared molded bottom that sits on two Gilded Bronze support plaques. The sides of the case has two Gilded Bronze attached ornaments that depicts Floral engraved designs and long hanging Floral sashes are draped on pedestals. The large 7" diameter face of the clock is very beautiful in design. It's protected behind a thick, clear and beveled circular glass panel that is also framed with the Gilded Bronze. This framed Glass panel is also hinged as a door and gives access to the face and key winders beneath. The face was created from a solid Gilded Bronze plaque and numbered in Black Arabic numerals that are displayed on rounded circular plaques. The center of the face has a lovely Golden Filagree ornament that depicts floral patterns. The face has the name "Roger" printed at then center top and the word "Nantes" printed at the bottom. (Nantes is the sixth largest city in France . Near the coastline). The name Roger was probably the family of nobility that this clock was created and commissioned by. The hands are very decorative in design and held in the center with a metal pin. The back of the clock has a metal hinged door that gives access to the movement inside. This door still maintains it's original cloth dust liner. The movement is one of the finest 19th century clocks ever made. It's a 8 day, key wind (comes with Key) and operated by a Brass pendulum. The movement is signed by the highly noted and respected 19th Century French clock maker "Vincenti". Vincenti movement are always found in the finest quality clocks , such as Tiffany, etc. The movement is marked as follows " Medaille D' Argent Vincenti 1855" ( Silver metal winner for beauty and quality at the 19th century French exposition). This fabulous clock is absolutely in Museum condition. There are not cracks, chips or repairs to the marble or Bronze. The movement has recently been professionally cleaned and oiled. The clock runs perfect and keeps time. If you have been looking for that exceptionally beautiful clock,, then this is the one for you.
