First period clock, made in France around 1780, the Louis XVI period. Gilt bronze clockcase on a fine white marble base case with gilt bronze ornaments around. At the right side the early casted gilt bronze sculpture of the Goddess Venus with a roses garland around her son, the winged young Amor, the God of Love and Soul, who brings Venus a kiss on the hand. Large case with garlands and clouds drapery, at the left base side a torch and a quiver. Fine white marble base case with gilt ornamented rims and feet. Gilt bronze front relief ornament with five winged musical cherubs. All gilt and parts in excellent condition. White enamelled dial with Arabic hours and minutes numerals, gilt Louis XVI pierced hands with wreath. Very good condition. Large and early French clockwork with pendulum hanging on silk suspension, 8 days going work, and the 1/1 and 1/2 hours striking on a silvered bell, large striking wheel. Back side with glass window. Good running and striking condition. Measurements : base case 10.75" x 5.5", high 14.25", dial diam. 5". A very fine clock and overall in perfect and original condition, view the several pictures.
